- Education has become incrementally more
available in Guatemala in recent years. But still,
only 30 percent of rural students complete third
grade.
- General Education Program: more than 400
primary school students will receive help for
registration, school materials, and/or tuition.
- Scholarship Program: teenagers from rural
areas, who have good grades in primary school
but may not be able to continue their study due
to their economic situation will receive an average of $40 per month to cover part of their tuition, school materials and transportation.
- The quality and relevance of schooling in Central American countries continue to cause
concern, as the majority of students attend weak and under-funded schools and fail to
acquire basic skills in mathematics, language, and science. Through our education fund,
junior high and high school students will be sent to semi-private schools where the
quality of education is considered better and will not be affected by frequent school
strikes.
