One of the most important ingredients of social development in developing countries is the participation of volunteers. Every year, thousands of volunteers arrive in Guatemala and look for ways to help. However, not all of them have strong financial support and for those who stay in Antigua area, life can be expensive.
The goal of the “Volunteers' House Project” is to provide a comfortable and economical housing nearby Antigua for volunteers where they can enjoy all the facilities that Antigua provides but live in a more typical atmosphere.
The minimum stay is one month and the rent is from Q900 to Q1300 which includes breakfast (Monday to Friday) and unlimited access to high speed internet. If you have your own laptop, wireless access is available.
This house is a place for volunteers to exchange ideas and share their working experience. Activities such as talks, project visits, dinner parties and travel will be organized for those who wish to participate.
But it is also a place for the community. Classes in languages, art and other cultural activities are held at the house for the people of Jocotenango and its surroundings. Classes are free or at very low-cost.
With the
collaboration of “Casa de la Musica”, we have offered music classes to more than 100 children in Jocotenango area and in Santiago Zamora.
All the proceeds from the “Volunteers' House Project” will be reinvested in the community work and if we receive extra donations, they will be distributed to different associations with whom we have direct contacts.
