Potable Water Project of Pacaxcoj and Chocantariy

Water in the area of Pacaxcoj and Chocantariy is scarce and polluted.

Much of it is carried by hand/head from the creeks. In the dry season there is so little water that people walk up to an hour and sometimes queue at night to get it.

The cleanest and most dependable supply of water is deep underground (800 feet deep). It is expensive to drill and expensive to pump.

A water committee has been formed in the village in order to find a solution for this problem.

Since 2006, CasaSito is coordinating with the UCLA chapter of Engineers Without Borders and the water committee. Our goal is to build a cost-effective and maintainable water system.
